‘Rattekop’

In 2022, I heard the song “Rattekop” by Ploegendienst. Ploegendienst is an Amsterdam based punk band. When I listened to the demo, I immediately envisioned a music video. I asked the band if I could create it, even though I had never worked with animation before.

The video follows Ray, the band’s singer, traveling from the Bijlmer to the city centre of Amsterdam as the Pied Piper of the rats. I dove into research and began learning frame-by-frame animation, which turned out to be a lot of fun.

As the release deadline approached, I realised I wouldn’t be able to animate the entire clip, so I adapted the story and created rat masks and giant cheese blocks for the final scenes.
